Member Schools
The LSF works with several independent and parochial schools in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia to support youth and to encourage multicultural and socioeconomic diversity in PreK-12th grade education. Our efforts are to ensure that youth have access to the best educational opportunities that the Washington, DC Metropolitan area has to offer. LSF Member Schools benefit from the cultural and linguistic support of LSF staff and supporters.

ABOUT THE LSF
The Latino Student Fund (LSF) was founded in 1994 to address disparities in access to education for underrepresented students in Washington, DC, and has since served more than 4,000 youth across its programs.
Our Mission
Provide opportunities for a strong academic foundation for underserved PreK-12th grade students and their families to promote higher education and professional leadership. The organization provides year-round, out-of-school-time programs for low-income, at-risk students and their families with the goal of increasing levels of educational attainment in the community.
WHAT IS THE TUTORING PROGRAM?
Since 1998, the Latino Student Fund’s Tutoring Program has provided free, individualized academic support to students in PreK through 12th grade across the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Through one-on-one tutoring, students strengthen their math, reading, and English skills in a welcoming environment that recognizes their individual needs, backgrounds, and strengths. Sessions are tailored to each student’s grade and assessment level, helping them practice essential skills, work through challenges, and build confidence as learners.
The program takes place in person on Saturdays from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. in DC, Prince George’s County and Montgomery County, during the school year. Students work with volunteer tutors using personalized assignments, engaging activities, and educational resources such as Khan Academy. Families also receive tools and guidance to support learning at home.
Tutoring Program Initiatives
The Native Language Literacy (NLL) Initiative helps students strengthen literacy skills in their first language while supporting their broader reading development. LSF’s Multicultural Library offers books in various languages, featuring diverse characters and stories that reflect students’ backgrounds and introduce new perspectives.
The Early Literacy Initiative (ELI) supports students in PreK through third grade as they develop early reading and phonics skills. Using the Orton-Gillingham approach, students receive structured, sequential, multisensory instruction that helps them connect letters and sounds and build a foundation for reading.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The Tutoring Program serves students from underrepresented families who are enrolled in PreK through 12th grade, and live in Washington, DC, Maryland and/or Virginia.
PreK students must be at least four years old by the start of the program. Spaces are limited, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES FOR ADULTS
LSF supports learning for the whole family. Adult classes are open to the community, with priority given to parents and family members of students enrolled in Tutoring.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
The LSF offers free virtual English classes to help adult learners strengthen their language skills and build confidence communicating at work and in everyday life. Fill out application form here or contact bagudelo@latinostudentfund.org to enroll in an online class!
Computer Literacy Classes
The LSF’s Computer Literacy classes teach adult learners basic computer skills, such as creating an email account and navigating the internet. Throughout the year students have the opportunity to study special topics, like completing online job applications and online safety for children.
